Talk about your style: I am so grateful to have someone who completely trusts my judgment and gives me free-range to decorate and adorn our apartment. We love a mid-century vibe with pops of bohemian touches scattered about. Pairing pieces with clean lines and edges like you’d find in a mid-century style with delicate, flowing bohemian characteristics gives a nice contrast between bold and gentle. It kind of reflects our personalities!
Do you have a favorite room in your home + why? I love our living room. It has a little corner fireplace with a nook that I can’t seem to stop fussing over. I find myself placing pieces we adore like favorite geodes, the Crosley, salt lamp, and etc., this way and that, arraigning and re-arranging. It’s therapeutic. So many times I will sit on our couch and just stare at what we’ve created.
Where does your inspiration come from? Antique shops, dreams of Paris, the colors and florals of the seasons, Pinterest, books, the sky, nature, cosmos, a bold glass of red wine, you name it.
Tell us about some of your biggest achievements and challenges. For our very first place, I think we’ve done well with creating something uniquely us. We do have a guest room that stands mostly for storage, but we been meaning to go through all of the boxes soon. We are getting married in July and wedding planning is always high on the to-do list!
Name 3 pieces that define you + your space. Our gallery wall, the triangle natural dream catcher I handmade, and our string of old photos of our families.
Biggest splurge and biggest steal: Our biggest splurge would have to be our mid-century dining table set. We found it on Craigslist and fell in love. It is perfect for our little apartment, but came with three extension pieces that will be put to use when we have a house and a growing family! Biggest steal is the framed art piece in the dining room — it is actually wrapping paper of the monuments in Paris in an Ikea frame! Art on a budget!
What are some of your go-to places when it comes to shopping for your home? Urban Outfitters for unique statement pieces and we are also firm Ikea believers. And there’s not much I love more than thrifting and antiquing. When I can, I love to make things with my hands.
Do you have any DIY tips to share? Perfect timing for this question! It always feels so good to admire a piece and know you put it together with your own hands. I just love our triangle dream catcher and knowing I tied it together, I dyed the cotton string, I adorned it with pretty things from nature, makes my heart swell with pride. It’s timeless. It’ll be one of those forever pieces we’ll weave through our family for generations.
Any advice? When you move in to your first place, if you’re anything like me, you’ll want things perfect and just-so. Next thing you’ll know, everything is changing and so is your style. So think of your home as an art piece you’re constantly changing…and adding and removing and enjoy it at every stage.
