Talk about your style. I love Scandinavian minimal design with a side of industrial.
Do you have a favorite room in your home + why? The living room probably takes the cake for my favorite room. It’s completely redone from how it looked when we moved in. It went from beige paint+ carpet to white walls + hardwood floors, with the touch of an MCM couch and our DIY floating sideboard & picture ledge. It’s my Friday nightspot.
Tell us about some of your biggest achievements and challenges. Our kitchen remodel has to be our crowning achievement so far. We took out a whole wall, cabinets and the built in stove hood to make an open kitchen with our DIY concrete island boldly standing in the middle.
Name 3 pieces that define you + your space. Our concrete island, the floating sideboard, and my office. It’s a little serious business mixed with an easy going + swanky flare.
Biggest splurge and biggest steal: That’s a hard one. There are the dull $$ spent on putting new floors in and the general – wood for remodeling/projects adds up like crazy – but let’s go with the fun facts: Our mid century modern couch was a Craiglist find that felt like a bit of a stretch, but was EXACTLY what I was looking for; while the Eames chair (from Amazon) was almost completely paid for with all the Amazon points we saved up over 2.5 years!
What are some of your go-to places when it comes to shopping for your home? Ikea + Lowes have helped us make or build much of the home we love. Though I’m known to find fantastic knick-knacks at Target + Marshalls!
Do you have any DIY tips to share? My DIY tip is to look at what you have, big or small, and see if you can repaint it to fit your needs before demoing or throwing it out. Our bathroom did NOT look like that before. But I didn’t have to do any demolition or heavy spending to get it to the bright and cheery state it is currently in!
Any advice? Create a home you feel rested in + enjoy. No style is impossible to achieve if you declutter your space and try your hand at some inexpensive DIY!
